Closed Impeller Design
This project involved reverse engineering a closed impeller for pumping water, based on an exterior scan of a non-usable, out-of-production model. The design was tailored for 5 axis machining manufacturing methods, and detailed 2D schematics were optimized to facilitate potential fabrication. The result is a durable, high-performance impeller ready for modern manufacturing.
Parametric 3D reconstruction of a closed centrifugal pump impeller based on legacy dimensional information and reference measurements. The model captures the hub, shrouds, internal vane geometry, and key functional interfaces for downstream documentation and analysis.
Detailed engineering drawing defining critical interfaces, datum references, dimensional tolerances, and geometric controls. Functional features were prioritized to communicate shaft alignment, mating surfaces, and rotational requirements without over-constraining the part.
Section views and reference dimensions document the impeller’s internal vane, shroud, and fillet geometry. Complex undimensioned surfaces are controlled through the associated 3D CAD model, allowing the drawing to focus on functional and manufacturing-critical requirements.
Preliminary CFD study used to visualize flow behavior and velocity distribution through the reconstructed impeller geometry. Note: For this project, the simulation was performed as an exploratory engineering exercise to evaluate the model and develop the analysis workflow, rather than as formal performance validation.
